The Confederation of Indian Industries - Food and Agricultural Centre of Excellence (CII-FACE) and LRQA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly promote food safety and capacity development in the Indian Food Industry.
The MoU was signed on 4th December in the presence of R S Sharma, Lloyd’s Register Chairman for South West Asia and Cor Groenveld, LRQA Global Head of Food Supply Chain Services, against the backdrop of the 8th Annual CII FACE food safety conference which was held in Delhi 3rd - 4th December 2013.
Krishna Nair, LRQA Business Manager South West Asia commented, “LRQA’s association with the CII-FACE expresses a mutual commitment from both of our organisations to driving food safety and excellence throughout the Indian food industry, especially amongst the small and medium sized enterprises. The MoU will help our two organisations create, transfer and utilise our collective knowledge and experience for the public good, thereby adding value to society.”
The objectives of the MoU are to:
· Encourage responsible endorsement of standards and technical regulations based on genuine national concerns
· Overcome technical barriers to trade through globally recognized conformity assessment systems
· Build stakeholder consensus in the development of standards and conformance measures
CII and LRQA have agreed to work together in the domains of:
· Food Safety Management
· Standards Development
· Conformity Assessment / Accreditation
· Organizational Maturity / Benchmarking
Commenting on the agreement, LRQA’s food safety expert Cor Groenveld said; “signing this MOU with CII is a great achievement. The Indian food market is one of the most rapidly growing in the world and this will enable us to jointly support this sector in further developing assurance in food safety, quality and sustainability throughout the food supply chain. "
